Despite how carefully I try to type and phrase things, it’s always amazing (in a bad way) how much gets lost in IMs. Something is unclear to someone who then makes an assumption, and after another 2 messages everyone is on a completely different page. It’s kind of why I prefer email since people tend to be a little more methodical in how they phrase things, provide details and context, etc. IMs get blasted out at the speed of thought, which isn’t always good for written communication.
I’ve been enjoying having a week of work that’s fairly light on meetings. The downside is that I still haven’t had time to do any coding because I’ve been tied up with other things. I’ll never be salty about being able to avoid being stuck on endless calls, though.
Spent a lot of the afternoon cleaning our place from top to bottom, so now I’m looking forward to sitting around and watching football. Hopefully the games will not be as horrible as what I witnessed yesterday afternoon.
That Nottingham Forest match was insane. It went from being a clear cut win to one player being in the perfect spot to deny the tying goal in stoppage time. They could not have wanted that final whistle more.
I can’t believe be the Commanders took down the Lions. I did not have that on my Bingo card this week.
It took 2.5 weeks, but the shirts I ordered for my Premier League team finally arrived. Tracking the shipment was interesting since the package was handled by 3 different carriers to get across an ocean and to my mailbox.
The Houston vs. Kansas City game was an embarrassment for the NFL. KC scored on 2 drives that should have ended, but the refs handed them a new set of downs because someone got marginally too close to Mahomes. When the broadcasters and rules expert can’t justify it, you know it’s bad.
Epic job by Aston Villa to come back from being down 2 - 0 at the half to tying things up. A win would’ve been incredible, but it’s hard to be upset about the point.
Loving Nedeljkovic getting a win on his first start since the Penguins waived Jarry with a 40 save night AND with an empty net goal. What a well deserved win.
Just SO just bought an espresso machine, so I’m ready to be all kinds of caffeinated. She previously had a Nespresso, but it was fairly “meh” at espresso and mediocre at making coffee. This should be much better.
Regarding this, it actually wasn’t a bug. The issue on the matches that didn’t work is that in one dataset there was trailing whitespace on some strings.
Trying to clean some data, and the results seem too good to be true. I expected at least a hundred mismatches between 2 datasets, but there are only 6. At least 2 of the ones reported as not matching do actually match, so… I think I have a bug somewhere.
Trying to enjoy the fact that it’s going to reach 40 F here today before we have a high in the low teens by early next week. I’m ready for spring. I at least hope a couple of warm days is enough to melt all of the ice we still have laying around.
I went to a Cyclones game last night and had a blast, as usual. I’m half convinced that I’m good luck for the team since they usually win when I attend, despite having a pretty rough record overall.
I’m using a Windows client (Windows 10) for the first time in years, and I’m surprised at how spammy the UI is. There are ads littered throughout the Start menu and even the Task Bar. I disliked Windows when I used it before, but this is bad.
Actually looking at some code for the first time since before the holidays. Luckily for me, it’s fairly simple, so I can ease back into looking at this particular language (Groovy.) It’s also nice because I won’t be able to dedicate many contiguous chunks of time to this.
Just grabbed a ticket to the local minor league hockey team for tomorrow night. I need a bit of a break after watching 2 dogs for a few days while also working when my SO was out of town. $2 beer night and free t-shirts is a good combination.
Our company is having everyone enroll their laptops in InTune for management. I understand the reasoning, but it makes using a Mac so much more annoying when you aren’t logged into your person iCloud account. A lot of apps I can add my own account to (e.g. Messages), but others (e.g. Notes) I can’t.
I don’t understand why anyone would schedule meetings and not set a reminder. Do you want people to miss your meeting? They’re also on by default, so that means someone would have to actively decide to disable it.
FanDuel carrying this year’s Reds broadcast instead of (the originally planned) MLB fills me with nothing but dread. If this is anything short of absolutely terrible, I will be pleasantly surprised.
Debating just throwing all in with my hometown Pirates and calling it a day.
I can safely say that I didn’t have the Rams crushing Minnesota on my Bingo card. I wanted the Vikings to win, but now I’ll be cheering for the Rams as they go against the Chiefs. Because I want anyone other than Kansas City to win now.
Like any Rogue-like, losses in Balatro can be frustrating when you just don’t get the cards you need. When you have a seed that ends up working perfectly with your deck, though… it’s so satisfying. Just noticed another win with the deck that only has Spades and Hearts.

Knocked out yet another Balatro win. I’ve been working through each deck, so this one was with the Abandoned Deck. I never got the Joker that gives a bonus for consecutive hands without playing a face card, but I ultimately didn’t need it.
